I have always considered myself a print maker first, and a fashion designer second. My art led me to creating clothing, not the other way around, and when I started learning more about the fast fashion world the more I wanted to help change it in a positive way.
To me sustainable fashion isn’t one thing, it is an overall ethos, a desire to make a change for the better in the fashion industry. Even small steps can make a big impact, which is why at Sophie Darling we try to take as many steps as we can, no matter how little they are.
First, I like to keep it local. By cutting down on driving, flying, and shipping we are able to keep costs down and make sure our quality is outstanding, while supporting local artists.
Second, each piece is made to order where possible. Without tonnes of excess material we are reducing our waste and making each stitch count.
Third, by using sustainable and low impact materials wherever possible. From recycled tissue paper to reams of OEKO-TEX® Certified TENCEL™ and cotton, we try and choose the most sustainable materials while still providing an exceptional luxury product.
Fourth, and probably the most important to me, is quality. I truly believe that less is more in a wardrobe. By choosing exceptional pieces that are long lasting both in style and quality, you are buying less, and appreciating more.
I want our pieces to be loved for a lifetime, not for a season. Each garment, print, and cushion we make is designed to be a classic forever piece that will stand the test of time. We are print led, sustainable fashion on tailored silhouettes, designed for creatively minded, forward thinking individuals who want more from their wardrobe.
